why MENTALITEE?

Putting…

…your mental health first is difficult. Life can feel overwhelming. Pressures are high.

But in the last week, an estimated 1 in 6 UK adults will have experienced a ‘common mental disorder’ such as depression or anxiety.

So we need to get better at looking after ourselves, and golf is a fantastic way to do this.

Why golf is great for mental health

Beyond scorecards and handicaps lies golf’s secret benefit: a natural pathway to better mental health. mentalitee supports players at every level to access the calm, focus, and connection that make this game uniquely therapeutic in our busy world.

Space

Golf brings us outside into nature, slowing our stress response and inducing calm. Your local driving range, pitch and putt, or full-size course: mentalitee is dedicated to getting you golfing in any form, so you can enjoy room to breathe.

Focus

Golf centres the mind with gentle challenges that distract us from everyday pressures. It’s a space where perfection isn’t expected, so we can focus on improvement and enjoyment. mentalitee embraces this uniquely positive outlook.

Friendship

Golf enhances social interaction, helping reduce anxiety and depression while improving wellness, self-esteem and self-worth. mentalitee ensures everyone has someone to talk to, whether playing golf or through our online forum.

THE POWER OF GOLF

How mentalitee works

mentalitee connects beginners and returners with volunteer PGA instructors for free group lessons. Contact us to join a session with no obligation to continue.

For those continuing their journey, we offer game improvement resources to players of all experience levels along with articles, videos, and content exploring golf and mental health connections. Click here to explore.

As part of our community, you’ll access mental health support through our online forum and crisis resources whenever needed.

Golf: Myths and concerns

Think golf isn’t for you? Read on…

Golf is for rich, retired people… not people like me

Mental health challenges don’t discriminate. They affect all sectors of society. The modern game of golf is equally diverse, and mentalitee exists to show everyone can benefit from taking part

Golf is expensive

We’re not promoting country club memberships here. ‘Playing golf’ can be hitting a bucket of balls at a driving range. Which costs roughly the price of a frothy coffee. And leaves you feeling way calmer than caffeine.

Attending a mentalitee session will label me as someone with mental health problems

We hear you. Your privacy is vital. There are no banners or announcements at mentalitee sessions. You don’t get a name badge. All arrangements are made with you directly, in advance, so you’ll look like just another person getting a golf lesson. Email info@mentalitee.co.uk with any questions or concerns and we’ll get straight back to you.

You need loads of equipment to start playing golf

You don’t. Most people begin learning with one club, which mentalitee can lend you during a lesson. If you enjoy it and do want to progress further, new starter sets cost less than you think, and pre-owned equipment is easy and inexpensive to obtain. You’ll be surprised how cheaply you can get golfing these days.

This is just the golf industry trying to make even more money

mentalitee does not represent the golf industry. It’s a not-for-profit organisation. We’re a group of enthusiasts with lived experience of how golf can positively affect your mental wellbeing, who want to help as many people as possible access these benefits.

You have to wear awful clothing with patterns

Dress codes have relaxed A LOT in recent years, and this is only going to continue. But there are no rules when you attend a mentalitee session. Dress for comfort!

Golf is all about rules and buzz-words

You don’t even need to know how to hold a club to attend one of our new starter sessions, so no one’s going to be testing you on the rules. And we’ve got lots of website content coming during 2025 to teach you all about the game.

Register interest now for our next sessions:
running late May and June 2025.

I look forward to seeing you there.
